Simple Recycling Instructions

Step 1
Sort your materials in the following groups.  If you do not have a Blue Box, you can pick one up at the Municipal Office, at the cost of $8.00 per box.

Acceptable Blue Box Materials
Newspaper & Magazines: Place newspapers and all inserts, phone books, magazines and catalogues in a plastic or paper bag next to your Blue box.  If possible, keep magazines and catalogues until you have a full bag.

Plastic Bags: Shopping bags only.  Remove all cash register taps and stuff bags into one bag.  Place beside blue box.

Boxboard & Fine Paper: Remove all wrap, sprouts and liners.  Flatten and place inside another box. Place fine paper in same box and put beside blue box.

Corrugated Cardboard: This is the type used for shipping stereos, furniture, and appliances (it has the wavy corrugations in the middle).  The boxes must be flattened and bundled in 30" x 30" x 8" thick and placed beside your Blue box.

Glass Bottles & Jars: Clear and coloured glass food and beverage containers.  Remove caps and lids, you don't have to remove labels.  Rinse the containers. Place metal lids in blue box.

Metal Food & Beverage Cans: Rinse cans out.  Place metal lids from cans and glass jars in the bottom of a can and pinch the top to trap the lids inside.

Rigid Plastic Containers: Acceptable plastic containers are identified by a three-sided recycling symbol with a number in the middle.  The following containers are acceptable in your Blue box: soft drink, water, fruit juice, liquor and other beverage containers.  Remove caps and rinse.  Bleach, fabric softener, motor oil, windshield washer fluid, dish soap, shampoo and vinegar containers with symbol are also acceptable.

Aluminum Foil & Foil Wrap: Please rinse and place in blue box.

Aerosol & Paint cans: Ensure that cans are EMPTY and lids removed.  Place metal lids loose in the blue box.
