JOINT HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING

1.
Call to
order: The meeting was called to order by Nancy Michie at
12:30pm will all members in attendance
2. In attendance:

3. Minutes of the last meeting
The Minutes from February 11, 2009 were reviewed.

“That the minutes of the February 11, 2009 Health and Safety Committee Meeting be adopted as circulated.”

4. Unfinished Business
Nancy Michie informed the committee that the Council stated that there will be no change to the set up with the fuel pumps at Foxton Fuels.
Barry Shaw stated that he wants it noted that the Road Employees and himself believe this is a safety hazard and someone or something will be hurt with the current set up.
Mike Thomas will review this
situation.
5. Regular Reports:
a. Workplace Inspections- Inspection Results - The Inspection reports were looked at.
Nancy Michie informed the committee that a grant has been applied for and if approved there will be changes to the Municipal office for the Chief Building Official and to the Basement.
Nancy is waiting for a quote for the Heat sensors in the Morris Works Garage.
Bluevale Hall – The Municipality has applied for a grant to build a new Hall. There will be information passed out to the public if the grant is approved to see if they want a new Hall. If they do not want a new Hall or the grant is not approved, the back entrance/exit will be replaced.
6. New Business:
Kim Johnston informed the Committee that the First Aid Kits have all be inspected but is still waiting to hear if the Volvo’s First Aid Kit has been found. The replacement kit will be placed in the Volvo until the lost kit has been found.
Summer Students – The summer
students have been trained.
Barry Shaw questioned what the Summer students are allowed to do… Eg. Run a
loader.
The summer students are allowed to use any machinery or equipment if they feel
comfortable and are fully trained on the machinery or equipment.
Workshops – Mike Thomas
informed the committee that there is Trench Safety Awareness being offered and
it will take ˝ day. He said that the training could be done on site with all
the road Men at once.
Mike Thomas is going to find out if the Public Works department can do a online
course for Pumping fuel.
Ross Goll stated that Donna Haugh has requested Lighter Safety Jackets for the summer. Nancy Michie informed Ross to talk to Mike Thomas about ordering jackets. Summer students will have the same allowance as the Public Works Department for Boots and Safety Clothing.
The Date to review the Health and Safety Assessment has been set for Monday June 8, 2009 at 12noon at the Council Chambers.
The Dates for the Health and Safety Inspections were set for June and July, 2009.
7. Date of Next meeting – The Next Health and Safety Meeting will be held on Wednesday September 2, 2009 at 12:00 noon at the Morris-Turnberry Council Chambers.
