A Message from the Mayor, Dorothy Kelly

Morris-Turnberry Council is finalizing the 2010 Budget.  At present we are projecting
a tax increase of 1.5% over 2009.  We will be applying for a further New Horizons
Grant toward the History Book.  The Committee is still hoping for more storiesfrom the Morris Ward.
We will have two students through the summer student program to help with line visits.
The History Book committee is available in the office on Wednesday mornings if you require
any information about submissions.

The County of Huron has approved a tax increase of 1.5% over last year.

We will be proceeding with renovations to the washrooms in the Municipal Office soon, in order
to comply with the Accessibility Standards from the Province.  Sometime in May, the office hours
will be reduced for construction to take place.

One of our biggest changes to our budget was the North Huron Fire Board which has now disbanded
and Morris Turnberry had no alternative, after several meetings with North Huron, but to sign the
Agreement at a 200 per cent increase over our previous board.  This Agreement is for two years,
so we will be discussing what else we could do for coverage for our residents.  Huron East Brussels
Fire Department and Howick Fire Department are covering much of the area, but, we still need
North Huron unless we had a department of our own.

In 2010 our County Planner will be Carol Leeming, with Sandra Weber as a Resource Person.
Carol was formerly a planner to Huron East.  To arrange a meeting with Carol contact
Nancy Michie, Administrator Clerk-Treasurer at 519-887-6137.

To contact me – 519-887-9460- Leave a message and I will return the call.
